Director UNGRIA’s Patent Department. Sergio holds a Ph.D. in Biology for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography - University of California, San Diego. He has a Master’s in Bioresources from the University of Mie, and a Master’s Degree in Biology with a specialization in Marine Biology, University of La Laguna. He is a European Patent Attorney (EQE) and has a Diploma in Patent Litigation in Europe, University of Strasbourg (France). Prior to joining UNGRIA’s Madrid office, he began his professional career as a researcher in the Cell Engineering Section at the National Institute of Aquaculture of Japan. After a few years on the Asian continent, he continued his scientific career in the United States where, after earning his doctorate, he worked as a researcher at a major U.S. Government marine and atmospheric research center. His research and teaching career continued as a professor at California State University Los Angeles, where he was an Associate Professor of Molecular Ecology. In 2010, he returned to Spain and joined, as Director of Intellectual Property, a recognized national company specializing in the development of personalized medicine, molecular biology tests for transfusion compatibility studies, and diagnosis and prognosis of genetic diseases. Finally, he joined UNGRIA in 2015 as director of the Patent Department where, in addition to managing the team and advising clients, he participates in various national and international training activities.
