The case of Manitoba judge Lori Douglas took another twist this week as her lawyer made a claim that could derail an inquiry into internet nude pictures.

Sheila Block, a litigation lawyer with Toronto firm Torys, filed an application with the Federal Court of Canada to block the inquiry because of a ‘reasonable apprehension of bias’, according to a report in the Montreal Gazette.

Aggressive questioning

Ms Block alleges that George Macintosh – the lawyer acting for a five-member committee overseeing the inquiry – engaged in ‘aggressive and argumentative questions, sexist and insulting references, misstatements and distortions of the evidence and attacks on (Ms Douglas's) character and credibility’.
Guy Pratte – the independent lawyer leading the inquiry – filed a similar but separate motion.
The inquiry is examining whether Ms Douglas should be removed from the bench after her lawyer husband showed his clients pictures of the Manitoba judge in bondage gear and performing sex acts.
