Priyanka Roy, a partner in Indus Law says: 'It is important for start-ups to have competent attorneys that they can call without having to worry about the fee ticker. Since start-up companies usually have to watch costs, it usually isn't viable for them to hire an in-house lawyer on a permanent basis. Hence, an 'on-call' lawyer makes sense.' This approach is 'fast catching up in India', says The Economic Times. Law firms which are themselves starting up are particularly interested, says Krishnayan Sen of Verus Advocates. He says: 'For us, it's an investment for the future. We start with a token fee in the beginning and hope to grow the relationship as the entity moves into different levels of funding.'
