'Tardy' Florida judge apologises for errors

A Florida judge who was criticised for his excessive tardiness and inappropriate religious comments has agreed to write a letter of apology to the public and the legal community.

The American Bar Association Journal reports that allegations made against Judge William ‘Jack’ Singbush by the Judicial Qualifications Commission, included being habitually late for court, offering to schedule late-running hearings at inconvenient times and taking long smoking breaks.
A comment from the Marion County judge was also criticised as he responded to a mistrial motion filed because the judge obtained a criminal background check of a witness.
Judge Singbush said: ‘I don’t know of anybody that’s [not] made a mistake – except for perhaps one, and for that we murdered him. You know, he was faultless and we murdered him for it. That’s not politically correct but I happen to believe in God… Christ is the intercessor.’
As well as making an apology, the judge will also be required to submit weekly logs, documenting his attendance.
