The firm has been accused of putting pressure improperly on a witness, Mahmood al-Kooheji. Allen & Overy had been acting for the defendant, Victor Dahdaleh, but he subsequently changed lawyers. The hearing was aborted. Another hearing has now begun, with Norton Rose Fulbright acting for Mr Dahdaleh. As well as deciding on whether A&O should be referred to the Attorney General, Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith may also rule on whether Akin Gump should pay some of the legal costs of Mr Dahdaleh after one of the firm’s partners, Mark MacDougall, refused to give evidence in the trial.
