A&O predicts Europe patent boom

Research from Allen & Overy suggests that the new European patent-filing and enforcement system could put the continent ahead of the US and Asia in terms of attractiveness.

Some 75 per cent  of companies surveyed which hold patents in Europe predict that they will be helped by the Unified Patent Court [UPC] and the rest of the new system. Nicola Dagg, head of IT litigation at Allen & Overy, said: ‘Where companies have made up their minds, one thing that is clear is they are preparing to opt in their crown jewel patents, their most valuable ones. We see this as likely to be giving rise to a shift toward Europe and the UPC in Europe as a forum for patent disputes.’ Source: Bloomberg
