A&O rescues Sao Paolo office by persuading last partner to stay

Without the decision of banking partner Bruno Soares to remain with Allen & Overy, the firm would have been left with just two associates in Brazil's biggest city.

A&O persuaded local partner to stay R.M. Nunes

Two months ago, Mr Soares had been persuaded by Paul Hastings to decamp, along with two other A&O Latin America specialists. At that stage, the dually-qualified lawyer (in New York and Brazil) was based in New York and waiting for regulatory clearance before returning to Brazil. However, Allen & Overy has persuaded him to return to Sao Paolo but to stay on in the firm.

According to A&O, Mr Soares has 'over 15 years’ working experience in Brazil,  Latin America and Africa relating to a variety of transactions including banking, projects, M&A and capital markets transactions'. Sao Paolo is the 12th largest city in the world - and is the biggest in the southern hemisphere. Source: Legal Business and A&O
