After 10 years, a new psychological analysis has shown that lawyers in the state of Massachusetts rate black judges more negatively than their white counterparts on questionnaires that lawyers answer to evaluate a judge's performance.

The assessments made by two psychologists found the lower ratings are due to racial bias, as reported by the Boston Globe. Those who scored poorly on the evaluation were directed to undergo extra mentoring and to even take additional courses.

ABA study

The study adds to a finding last year by analysis of the American Bar Association ratings that the ABA gave consistently lower ratings to anyone who wasn't a white male running for federal judicial positions.Despite the findings, Chief Justice Paula Carey said the court plans to continue using the questionnaire, but with revised questions. She said the court will monitor for continued bias. Source: Think Progress
