Brazil: cutting a deal with the English

The Law Society of England and Wales and the Brazilian Bar are to strengthen the connection between the two organisations and their members. The agreement was the culmination of a two-day visit to London by senior members of the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB) at the invitation of the Law Society and the Bar Council in England and Wales and the UK’s Ministry of Justice.

Access to markets

The OAB will be returning the favour, with the Law Society and UK Trade & Investment led legal services visiting Sao Paulo at the end of the month.
In a statement, Law Society president Lucy Scott-Moncrieff said: ‘It is fitting that solicitors in England and Wales ... will be strengthening links with their Brazilian counterparts in the same year that the Olympic Games have passed from London to Rio. Brazil's economy is developing in infrastructure, energy and with the Olympics and football World Cup set for Brazil, sport is a growth economy too.
‘The purpose of these inward visits from overseas bars, and our trade missions, is to give our members access to new markets and to share with lawyers from other jurisdictions best-practice across a range of areas.’
