Another day, another Dentons expansion

Dentons has announced it will establish its first physical presence in Latin American and the Caribbean, with the news it is considering combining with Colombia's Cárdenas & Cárdenas and Mexico's López Velarde, Heftye y Soria (LVHS).

The proposed deal will extend the firm's offerings in areas including disputes, banking and finance, energy, IP, mining and telecommunications. If approved, Denton's headcount will grow by more than 55 lawyers in Colombia and more than 35 lawyers in Mexico, for a global total of over 7,400. The tie-ups are subject to partner votes, which are to be completed by 18 December.

A busy year for Dentons

The news builds on other initiatives announced by Dentons this year, including combinations in China, the US, Australia, Singapore and Luxembourg that made it the largest law firm in the world. The firm also established offices in Johannesburg and Milan, hired 50 lawyers in Budapest and created its platform, NextLaw Labs, which focuses on developing new technologies to transform the practice of law.
