In the latest episode in the long running battle between Apple and its South Korean competitor, the iPad creator must publish advertisements in major UK newspapers, and include a notice on its web site for at least six months, according to The Guardian newspaper.
’Not as cool’
The decision was made following a English High Court ruling in which Apple’s copyright claim against Samsung was dismissed, as Judge Colin Birss ruled Samsung’s product was ‘not as cool’ as the iPad.
After the ‘uncool’ ruling, Apple released a statement which said: ‘It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging. This kind of blatant copying is wrong and, as we've said many times before, we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.’
However, suggestions that the judge imposed the most recent order on Apple in response to this comment were quickly quashed. ‘They are entitled to their opinion,’ Judge Birss said.
