Armstrong report a 'hatchet job', claims lawyer

The lawyer of Lance Armstrong has slammed a report by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) accusing the seven-time Tour de France winner of using and distributing performance enhancing drugs.

Lance Armstrong: denies cheating

Sean Breen, a named partner at Texan law firm Howry, Breen & Herman, said that the report which links Mr Armstrong with the highly sophisticated doping programme is a ‘one-sided hatchet job’, adding that the report amounted to ‘a taxpayer-funded tabloid piece rehashing old, disproved, unreliable allegations based largely on axe-grinders, serial perjurers, coerced testimony, sweetheart deals and threat-induced stories’.

Scientific data

Eurosport reports that the USADA links Mr Armstrong – who has never failed a doping test – to the drugs through financial payments, emails, scientific data, laboratory test results, and testimony from 11 former teammates.
Mr Breen said the agency was ‘ignoring the 500-600 tests Lance Armstrong passed, ignoring all exculpatory evidence, and trying to justify the millions of dollars USADA has spent pursuing one, single athlete for years.’
Mr Armstrong was banned for life by the USADA in August after he announced he would not contend the doping charges.
