Former in-house lawyers head to private practice in the Silicon Valley, while Nomura and 3M make senior appointments

New York-based law firm White & Case has snapped up two former in-house lawyers to beef up its mergers and acquisitions and capital markets practices in California’s Silicon Valley. Eric Hwang, formerly with Oracle, and Christopher Rose from CODA Automotive both join as partners, reports Law.com.
David Graham has left his position as global head of legal and general counsel at Japanese financial conglomerate Nomura just one year after taking up the role.His move sparks a wider restructuring of the legal team, reports Legal Week newspaper. Mr Graham’s responsibilities have currently been split between Nomura chief legal officer, Noriaki Nagai, and other regional legal heads.
Minnesota manufacturing conglomerate 3M has announced Ivan Fong will start as senior vice president, legal affairs and general counsel on 15 October. The MinnLawyer reports that Mr Fong, 51, previously served as general counsel of the US Department of Homeland Security, overseeing the its nearly 1,800 lawyers.
Mr Fong was also chief legal officer and secretary of Cardinal Health, a $91 billion global healthcare company.
