Social media giant Twitter has recruited former Google associate general counsel Nicole Wong. At Google, Ms Wong was dealt with censorship issues and once negotiated to keep running YouTube, one of Google’s subsidiaries, in Turkey while under pressure from the country’s government, reports the web site CNet. Ms Wong is one of several former Google employees to make the move to Twitter, among them general counsel Alex Macgillivray, former Google associate litigation counsel Amy Keating, and former corporate counsel Bakari Brock.   

David Meltzer is the new general counsel at the American Red Cross, which has recently been in the spotlight for its relief efforts in the fallout of Hurricane Sandy. Mr Meltzer will continue to lead the international services department and oversee all international activities of the aid organisation, reports the web site of Who’s Who Legal. As general counsel, his team will handle banking and fundraising matters along with the Red Cross’ office of investigations, compliance, and ethics.

JPMorgan has restructured its in-house legal team, reports The Lawyer newspaper in London, in a move triggered by merger of the business’s investment bank and treasury and security units.Formerly the general counsel of JPMorgan’s investment banking division, Karen Linney will take on a more international role as Emea general counsel. Additionally, Facundo Gomez Minujin has been named as Latin America general counsel and JT Murphy will take over the general counsel role for the Asia-Pacific region.

Corporate partner Hildegard Bison at German branch of London-based magic circle law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has jumped to take a role as the legal head and assistant general counsel of BP Europa, the newspaper Legal Week reports. Ms Bison joined Freshfields in 1994, which has been an adviser to BP throughout the years and was recently reappointed to its legal panel.

California-based technology company Applied Materials announced that Thomas Larkins will take over as senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary following Joseph Sweeney’s retirement. Mr Larkins was formerly the vice president and deputy general counsel at Honeywell International, reports Reuters.
