Ashurst plans to move a total of 150 employees to its new and cheaper Glasgow base in Scotland within the next year.
The Glasgow office will employ 30 legal analysts and 120 business support staff with opportunities for recruitment in Scotland. The move, however, will place 350 of the London support staff at risk of unemployment. No lawyer redundancies are expected.
Exceptional legal graduates
Michael Polson, previous partner at Dundas & Wilson, will lead the Ashurst team as partner. He told the BBC that the office would 'help shape an alternative legal model and career structure in Scotland, benefiting from the hig number of exceptional legal graduates.'
Scottish Development International (SDI) granted £2.4m on the conditions that the firm employs 300 staff within five years.
