The Lawyer newspaper in London reports that Singapore firm Rajah & Tann recently launched a Burma practice group -- led by Singapore-based partners Chester Toh and Jainil Bhandari – ahead of plans to open an office in the country in the first half of 2013.
The firm has already embarked on a rapid expansion scheme, opening offices in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and the Thai capital Bangkok, as well as affiliate offices in Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia.

Beeline

Malaysian firm Zaid Ibrahim & Co has also confirmed its plans for Burma, and expects to open an office in the country within the next two months.
‘Foreign companies are making a beeline to look at investment opportunities, with Chinese and Japanese companies taking the lead,’ said Zaid Ibrahim managing partner Chew Seng Kok. ‘Since last July, we’ve been monitoring the situation in Myanmar [Burma], mainly in response to requests by clients for assistance.’
