Aussie firms predicted to increase pay rates

Leading Australian law firms which have recently frozen their pay are likely to unfreeze it under the new government, according to a consultant.

The Australian legal profession has been impacted by global trends, including increasing use of digital solutions for legal problems and off-shoring Ivan Pavlov

Consultant Ted Dwyer told Lawyers Weekly: 'Corporates are sitting on a lot of cash and a Liberal majority government will go a long way to releasing that cash….' He now expects that lawyers with two to four years experience will be rewarded for accepting low or no pay rises recently. He adds: 'Senior associates are the most profitable group in firms and they will have to work harder in the next few years because clients want to increasingly work with partners and senior associates.'
