Aussie lawyers leap into expanding Singapore market

Gadens Lawyers has launched an office in Singapore, with the Australian law firm scooping up a former Clifford Chance counsel to manage the office.

The office, which officially opened on 1 January, will be managed by Marc Rathbone, an experienced energy and resources lawyer, having been in the Singapore market for the past six years and a lawyer for more than 20 years.
Mr Rathbone told Legal Business online: ‘Gadens, like a lot of Australian firms, sees Asia as a key growth market for our clients. Singapore is a natural extension for the firm in the Australasian region.’

Meanwhile, Legal Business Online is also reporting that Australian firm HWL Ebsworth has snared Harry Cormack from Gadens as a partner in the firm’s banking and financial group in Sydney.
Mr Cormack, a Gadens partner for seven years has more than 30 years’ experience in advising some of Australia's prominent banking and financial services institutions.
HWL managing partner Juan Martinez said that the appointment was in response to a growing demand for banking and financial services in recent years.
