The website, Women In-House, was set up in March by a group of experienced in-house female lawyers who found difficulty in networking amongst female legal colleagues and were looking for opportunities to meet other female in-house lawyers to collaborate and share ideas.
Brief snapshot
One of the website’s founders, Katie Foat, told Lawyers Weekly of the small window of opportunity that female lawyers have to meet each other, mainly at law firm functions or on the other side of a transaction. Ms Foat, a legal director in Sydney with Transport Modellers Alliance said these occasions provided women with ‘only get a very brief snapshot’ which did not allow ‘an opportunity to really meet and talk’ with female peers.
Expanding out of Sydney
Registered members can attend monthly lunches with seating arrangements targeted at specific industries to encourage networking. The events are primarily based in Sydney but are currently expanding to other cities in Australia.
