Bahrain cabinet to discuss media law proposals

New proposals for reforms of media law are due to be discussed by the Bahraini cabinet this Sunday.

Bahrain's media reform law has been in the pipeline for over a year Dr Ajay Kumar Singh

Minister of State for Information Affairs Sameera Rajab has been working on the planned reform for over a year. But some existing proposals have not taken modern practices into account, she says. The plans that will be discussed on Sunday are, however, more appropriate in her view. She is quoted in the Gulf Daily News as saying: 'We have come up with a comprehensive law that fulfils modern requirements that will be on Cabinet's table by Sunday's session. Let's hope the legislative authority approves it in reasonable time before the middle of next year to allow us to go ahead with our plans.'

The planned legal reform is part of a five-year information strategy which the minister has just unveiled.
