Baker raked in a whopping $2.313 billion in gross revenue for the most recent financial year. While a surge from DLA saw it take in $2,247bn, overtaking 2011’s second place finisher, New York’s Skadden, which ended the financial year with $2,165bn.
Leapfrogging
The results of The American Lawyer’s 2012 Global 100 saw little other movement, with Latham & Watkins, Clifford Chance and Linklaters all maintaining their positions of fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Allen & Overy leapfrogged its magic circle rival Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to claim seventh position while Kirkland & Ellis pulled the same move to overtake Hogan Lovells to ninth and complete the top 10.
Bakers and DLA also had by far the highest lawyer headcount with 4,004 and 3,746 respectively. Clifford Chance was third with 2,518.
Profits per partner
New York’s Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz took the accolade for best profits per partner, with each of its 78 equity partners raking in $4.46 million on average. Los Angeles-based Quinn Emmanuel Urquhart & Sullivan bagged second place with $4.160m profits per partner, while Sullivan & Cromwell came third with $3.22m. Bakers finished well down in this category, in 68th position with $1.09m brought in on average by its 725 equity partners.
