Although the exact date of the Rio launch is yet to be announced, Baker Botts confirmed its intention to open an office in Brazil’s second-largest city earlier this year.
The Lawyer newspaper reports that London project finance partner John White is expected to take charge of the office, while at least one other lawyer will also be relocating to Brazil.

In the firm’s 15-strong promotion round announced on Friday, senior associate and energy specialist Hannah Longley was promoted to the partnership in both London and Rio.
The report adds that the decision to head to Rio rather than Brazil’s financial centre São Paulo is becoming popular among large law firms looking to capitalise on work related to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
