Belfast services centre helps A&O cut staff costs

Allen & Overy brought down its staff costs in 2013/14 - partly because of its creation of a support centre in the lower cost city of Belfast.

Total staff costs were down by £15m in the year. The services centre was set up in 2011 with the aim of creating 180 posts there - and building up resources in Belfast in order to focus less on the high cost city of London. The firm filed its results this week with Companies House. The documents said that costs had fallen in this area as a result 'of transitioning support roles to Belfast, a 4.1 per cent decline in overall staff headcount and the impact of 1 May 2013 pay awards'.
