Andreessen Horowitz-backed cryptocurrency business Thesis has hired Katherine Snow as its new general counsel.
Snow joins from crypto data and research platform Messari, where she was chief legal officer, spearheading its global policy and legal strategy. At Thesis, she will lead the company’s legal team and advise on regulatory issues impacting the cryptocurrency landscape.
Thesis calls itself a “venture studio dedicated to building on Bitcoin”. It has a portfolio of Bitcoin-related brands including products such as Fold, a payments platform to spend Bitcoin on everyday transactions. The company is backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Fenbush Capital and Polychain Capital.
Matt Luongo, CEO of Thesis, said: “[Snow’s] knowledge of both the legal and regulatory environment in fintech and blockchain is invaluable as we continue to expand our ecosystem. Katherine’s strategic insight will ensure that Thesis remains at the forefront of innovation while navigating the complex global regulatory landscape.”
Snow arrives after just under three years at Messari, having previously been associate GC at crypto trading platform Binance.US. She started her legal career in private practice at Sherman & Howard before moving to Cooley where she practised in its blockchain technology and tokenisation group for two years.
She said: “I’m excited to join Thesis at such a pivotal time for both the company and the blockchain industry. Thesis is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in decentralised finance and blockchain adoption, and I look forward to helping the team navigate regulatory challenges while supporting its mission of bringing cutting-edge solutions to the forefront of the market.”
In other crypto-related moves, in August crypto exchange Bitget appointed former Binance GC Hon Ng as its first chief legal officer. Following Ng’s departure in July 2023, Binance promoted former Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom litigation lawyer Eleanor Hughes to GC, having previously headed up legal for its Asia Pacific and Middle East and North Africa regions.
