Blavo & Co shut down by regulator

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has shut down London-headquartered firm Blavo & Co.

Two weeks ago, the firm was referred the Metropolitan Police by the Legal Aid Agency and three days later appeared to have been put up for sale. The SRA has subsequently intervened in the firm and the practice of sole director John Blavo, whose practising certificate has been automatically suspended. It gives the following reasons for the intervention:

·       There is reason to suspect dishonesty of the part of a manager or employee of Blavo & Co Solicitors Limited

·       There is reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of John Blavo in connection with his practice

·       To protect the interests of clients of Blavo & Co Solicitors Limited

The SRA has ‘appointed agents to deal with all matters’ currently held by the firm and will and complete an investigation, for which there is ‘no set timescale’. Sources: The Law Society Gazette; Solicitors Regulation Authority
