BP suffers Supreme Court setback over spill

The court refused to examine the terms of the multibillion-dollar compensation fund agreement which the oil company set up after the accident.

BP was appealing lower court rulings which compensated people and companies not actually injured in the Deepwater Horizen oil spill. The company had agreed to create a fund to compensate those impacted by the disaster in a bid to  avoid litigation costs and speed up claims. However, the company has challenged the wider view taken by the administrator running the claims process with more than half a billion dollars claimed by those whose losses are not related to the disaster.
