BP to appeal against latest oil leak setback

BP has been turned down in its attempts to reclaim millions of dollars of what it claims are 'excess' compensation payments made to victims of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

BP is to appeal a judgement on the gulf oil spill Katherine Welles

But the oil giant will appeal against the judgement from Judge Carl Barbier in the New Orleans US District Court. The company said that the ruling upheld payments to claimants who ‘have been paid money they didn’t deserve for losses they didn’t suffer’. Although the means of calculating payments to claimants has been changed, the judge will not let BP go back to reclaim money from recipients who were paid on the old system and would have received far less under the new system.
