Brazil sees telecoms surge ahead of World Cup

Telecoms lawyers are seeing a boom in work as the country prepares for the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016.

The sector has been 'a hotbed of activity over the last 12 months with practitioners reporting a surge in work', according to Who's Who Legal. The country is one of the largest telecoms markets in South America. New high-speed data services - 4G LTE - were launched in the first half of 2013. The Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications, Anatel, 'has been active in trying to enhance competition, reducing licence fees for operators wishing to provide multiple services', according to MarketResearch.com.
