The biggest disputes, averaging $41.9m in costs, took place in Asia, followed by the Middle East, on $40.9m. The cost of US disputes tripled to $34.3m. Those in the UK rose to $27.9m. Mike Allen, global head of contract solutions at Arcadis, said that  major construction programmes were now more  fast paced and  complex, involving a multitude of supplier parties. This meant there were  numerous points at which a dispute could occur. 'Many of these disputes are resolved out of the public eye but do often result in heavy costs and time overruns,’  he said.
