Downey Brand - the largest law firm in Sacramento - has lost 18 lawyers this year and is one of several firms which have lost lawyers in the last few months. In June, it listed 122 lawyers but will soon show just 91. Former managing partner Jeff Koewler is setting up a new business and family practice with four of the other departing lawyers. He said: ‘I’ve had visions of starting my own firm for 10 years. These are partners I have worked with and enjoy practicing with—and a boutique business firm seems to make a lot of sense.’ The other three lawyers are setting up a banking, property and business practice.
