According to a report in local Nigeria newspaper, The Guardian, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola rebuked members of the bench for not keeping abreast of common law jurisprudence. ‘This is the reason some of our judges cannot cope when they step out of Nigeria’, he told a senior figures at a book launch honouring a retiring judge.

Funding crisis

Justice Ayoola, who is also the former chairman of the country’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, blamed a lack of funds for the judiciary’s poor training and inability to update antiquated knowledge and skills.
He said funding was crucial to provide modern facilities to help the judiciary keep up with advancements in the law globally.
