The firm, working with local firm Cavenagh Law, was quoted as saying in July that it was 'the first full service firm in Singapore offering litigation advice'. However, Law Minister K Shanmugam said, according to the Straits Times, that such a statement would suggest that a foreign law firm could now carry out litigation in Singapore. He added: 'This would not be accurate.' Accordingly, Clifford Chance and Cavenagh Law have been called in to the Law Ministry and told that their utterances 'conveyed an inaccurate picture and should be stopped'.
