Chinese money managers study UK laws

A large firm of Chinese money managers, the China Jiantou Trust, has sent 23 executives to London to be trained in the legal and regulatory environment as well as other financial issues.

The move is seen by The Financial Times as a sign that it 'plans to set up in Europe'. As well as looking at the legal issues, the course attendants are studying competition and the practicalities of M&A in a two-day course at the London School of Business. A 'number of Chinese fund companies' are thought to be considering opening up in the UK, says the newspaper. Until recently, the Chinese focus on Europe was mainly tunnelled through Luxembourg but recent moves to make the UK more attractive to Chinese entities are thought to be having their effect.
