Lawyers across Ireland have been trying to get clarification of the situation. The Irish prime minister, the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, has promised a Commission of Investigation.  Over 2,500 tape recordings have been collected - but it is not clear which Garda stations were involved and whether they routinely or spasmodically made recordings.

Lawyers will be seeking reviews of cases where conversations took place were lawyers and which then might have been listened to by the police. Source: Belfast Telegraph and Irish Times.
