DAC Beachcroft is to provide charity law guidance to over 1,200 charities and community groups who are members of the Aviva Community Facebook Group.

Collaborative action

The Aviva Community Facebook group was established as part of the UK’s largest insurer’s aims to help small charities face their future with greater confidence through the provision of skills, funding and connections. As a business, Aviva depends on healthy communities for current and future customers, employees, supply chain and investors. The Aviva Community Group enables the company to practically support the much needed causes that matter to these groups. DAC Beachcroft is helping the Aviva Community Group’s 1,200 small charitable organisations by providing a series of know-how blogs on charity law issues that may affect them. Topics to be covered include setting up a charity, appointing Trustees, and understanding different charitable funds. Alistair Robertson, partner and charity law expert at DAC Beachcroft, said “Not only does this initiative provide important help to charities, it is also a great example of two businesses working together to tackle responsible business issues through collaborative action.”

Making a difference

Tom Baker, Aviva client relationship partner at DAC Beachcroft added, “We are always looking for new and innovative ways to partner with our clients and work together on making a difference in our local communities. Aviva is a longstanding client of the firm and it was a no-brainer to team up with them to support such a broad range of charities and community groups.” Lois Duguid, head of responsible business at DAC Beachcroft. “Collaborating with Aviva to empower small charities perfectly matches the goals we have set out in our Purpose as a firm: to help our clients and colleagues succeed, and to create sustainable value for our employees, clients and our local communities.” In 2018, Aviva’s global community investment totalled £17.6 million, and community programmes helped 1,554,000 people and supported 3,100 projects around the world. Through the Aviva Community Fund, Aviva has helped over 7,000 projects worldwide since 2015, exceeding a target of 5,000 projects by 2020.
