Debevoise & Plimpton has become the latest Am Law 100 firm to announce a move to New York’s plush new Hudson Yards district. The firm has signed a 20-year lease to relocate its 500-lawyer strong headquarters from its current location in Midtown at 919 Third Avenue to the fashionable new district being developed on Manhattan’s far west side.

The office will be housed in The Spiral, a 65-storey office block under construction at 66 Hudson Boulevard.

The firm is leasing around 530,000 rentable square feet of space and expects to move into its new premises in the second half of 2022.

“The far west side of Manhattan is quickly becoming a vibrant new centre for global business, and we look forward to serving our clients from a truly modern, efficient and eco-friendly space,” said Michael Blair, the firm’s presiding partner.

The Spiral will feature ‘a cascading series of landscaped terraces and hanging gardens as its signature element’, according to the firm.

The district is fast becoming a major focus point for law firms. Boies Schiller Flexner, Milbank, and Cooley have set up shop at the nearby 55 Hudson Yards while Skadden Arps Slate Meagre & Flom is due in the spring to move into One Manhattan West, the first tower block to open in an eight-acre district being developed by Brookfield Properties.

In October, Cravath Swaine & Moore signed a lease to move into Two Manhattan West, which is currently under construction, as its anchor tenant.
