Delhi government prioritises legal system reform

Lawyer and IT specialist Somnath Bharti, chosen to hold the law brief in the newly-elected state government in Delhi, is promising to increase the numbers of judges and public prosecutors in order to speed up the criminal justice system.

The 39-year old said: 'The biggest problem we face, which is also a reason for increasing crime, is a slow judiciary. That is an antithesis to the concept of justice. Our focus is on increasing the number of judges. I have already asked for the existing list of prosecutors and standing counsels who represent the state government.' His party, the AAP, promised to create new courts and he has said that the party 'will live up to all that we have promised'. Source: Times of India
