Dentons set to join forces with Uganda's largest law firm

The fast-growing global law firm has linked up with 12 partner KAA, the largest local law firm.

Global law firm Dentons is to form a combination with Uganda law firm Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA). KAA, the largest firm in Uganda,  has 26 lawyers, including 12 partners. The proposed combination would enable both firms to target opportunities in Uganda, East Africa and around the world. If approved by the partners of both firms, the combination would further allow Dentons develop in Africa. 'With this combination we are truly poised to become one of the leading and fastest-growing firms in Africa. It's our goal to be the first truly pan-African law firm, through a blend of full-firm combinations and our well known network,' said Joe Andrew, global chairman of Dentons.

Polycentric

Dentons originally set up a Cairo office in 1964 and currently has offices in Casablanca and South Africa.'The proposed combination with Dentons, with its polycentric philosophy, will enable us to maintain our deep connections in the local community while embracing and building upon the attributes of the firm that helped us become one of the elite in East Africa,' said KAA Managing Partner David Mpanga. Following approval by both firms, which are expected to vote on it in the next several weeks, the proposed combination will launch later in 2017. Dentons now has more than 8,500 lawyers in 158 locations in 66 countries.
