Dentons to launch in Munich with NRF hires

Dentons is to launch an office in Munich in July with the hire of three partners from Norton Rose Fulbright, among them its German senior partner.

Norton Rose Germany boss and corporate partner Dr Alexander von Bergwelt will serve as managing partner for the Munich office and will be responsible for building and leading the new team. Accompanying him are M&A and securities partner Michael Malterer and tax partner Igsaan Varachia.

Germany a ‘critically important market’

The Munich office will be Denton’s third in Germany and adds to existing bases in Berlin and Frankfurt. The firm has hired 12 new partners in Berlin and Frankfurt since the beginning of 2015 and now has more than 100 fee earners in Germany.

Dentons global chairman Joe Andrew said: ‘Germany is the largest economy in Europe and a critically important market for our clients around the world. As Germany’s third largest city, Munich has been a clear growth priority to place us in the best position to meet clients’ needs.’

A year of growth

Dentons has seen 12 months of unprecedented growth and has become the world’s largest practice by headcount through a series of mergers, including with Chinese firm Dacheng, US firm McKenna Long & Aldridge and Colombia’s Cárdenas & Cárdenas. The firm now employs over 13,000 staff.
