Creditors and partners pressing claims against the estate of defunct New York-based global law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf's have instructed international law firm Brown Rudnick and New York’s Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman, according to the Am Law Daily, as the largest chapter 11 bankruptcy case in US history involving a law firm gains pace.
As that wrestling match gears up, former Dewey & LeBoeuf China practice head Ingrid Zhu-Clark became the latest big name to ditch the failing firm, as she heads for Philadelphia-based Morgan Lewis & Bockius as co-managing partner of its Beijing office. The energy-related transactions expert has handled a number of major deals for Chinese state-owned enterprises, according to Law.com.
Meanwhile, a new law office has risen above the dark clouds surrounding the firm, as two lawyers from Dewey’s Albany outpost will remain at the same building but operate as the first upstate office for Brooklyn-based firm Cullen and Dykman.
According to The Business Review, the office will be headed by Brian FitzGerald – who had been with Dewey for 22 years. He will be joined by Greg Nickson.
