DLA Piper has offered the manual to help in-house counsel and other individuals involved in mergers and corporate reorganizations navigate the merger clearance process.

Critical requirement

The firm says that with increasing numbers of cross-border strategic corporate reorganizations and mergers in today’s fast changing global environment, an understanding of and compliance with applicable regulations and requirements is critical. The handbook offers guidance on the regulatory issues involved, including a detailed overview of relevant local rules, methodology, process and timing requirements in 55 jurisdictions across North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Authoring the textbook were DLA Piper antitrust and competition lawyers from its offices around the world, as well as from its relationship firms. The detailed guide is available in hardcopy and in three main digital formats. It is also supported by a dedicated webpage which will be updated regularly with the latest relevant developments in all the jurisdictions covered in the handbook.

Collaborative effort

Léon Korsten, Head of DLA Piper's Dutch litigation and regulatory practice and global co-chair of the antitrust and competition group, said, ‘today even straightforward mergers and acquisitions evolve to require numerous clearances, procedural requirements and substantive tests in different jurisdictions so the need for intuitive, succinct advice has never been greater. Having steered away from the common Q&A approach, we have collaborated on this handbook to offer detailed guidance and insight into these dynamic changes. We are confident this resource will help readers tackle the increasing variables and nature of complexities now faced.’ Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry, global co-chair of DLA Piper's litigation and regulatory group, added ‘we are delighted to publish this handbook and want to extend our gratitude to all involved in its creation, the first of its kind for our firm. Its publication is testament to the hard work and truly collaborative effort from our multijurisdictional teams across our international offices.’
