Mr Jayakumar will take up a consultancy role at the firm – which was magic circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s former joint venture partner in Singapore – on 1 May, reports The Lawyer.
As well as influencing the firm’s practices in international law, international trade and constitutional law. He will also work with the firm’s clients and spend time mentoring the firm’s lawyers.
During a lengthy political career, Mr Jayakumar served as Singapore’s deputy prime minister from 2004 to 2009, when he was appointed senior minister, a role he held from 2009 to 2011.
He also served as the minister of law from 1988 to 2008, making him one of Asia’s longest-serving law ministers.
