Dutch lawyers are critical of government cuts on the country’s legal aid system. Nearly nine in ten lawyers (87 per cent) have responded to a survey criticizing the cuts. The head of lawyers association NOvA, Walter Hendriksen said that the cuts are the biggest worry for the legal system as 36 per cent of the population depends on legal aid.
The survey also found that 69 per cent believe public opinion dictates the actions of the public prosecution department.
The Dutch took to the streets some months ago to protest about the cuts, a move supported by three in four lawyers. Source: Dutchnews.nl
