Eight law firms face subpoenas in US judge investigation

A federal investigation into Supreme Court Justice Seamus P McCaffery has extended to the investigators serving subpoenas on eight law firms.

Eight law firms have subpoenas, including Schmidt Kramer and Fox Rothschild justasc

The subpoenas relate to work referred on to them by the judge's wife, Lise Rapaport, who also acted as his chief judicial aide. She received referral fees for referring the clients to the firms. According to Philly.com, the firms include Schmidt Kramer in Harrisburg and Fox Rothschild. Abraham C Reich, co-chair of Fox Rothschild told Philly.com that referral payments to Ms Rapaport related to a client she referred to them in 1986, four years before the couple married and 11 years before she began acting as her husband's judicial aide. The amounts were 'relatively small', he said. Pennsylvania - where the referrals took place - allows referral fees to be made.
