Embattled GC faces citizens' group challenge

A group of citizens has brought a lawsuit with the aim of ousting the general counsel of Jacksonville city.

The group - the Concerned Taxpayers of Duval County - is using the lawsuit to argue that Cindy Laquidara was not property appointed to her position and that she should be removed. Her appointment has proved controversial for some time. She was asked by councillors to review her own appointment to see if it was legal. She reported back on this last month, saying that all was in order.

Valid or not?

According to Jacksonville.com, Ms Laquidara had been in the deputy post for 12 years when she was made up to general counsel on a one-year term. The Concerned Taxpayers group questions whether the 're-appointment', after that one-year term finished, was valid.
