Employment firm accused of imposing ban on relationships

A UK law firm which specialises in employment and litigation has been accused of having a bullying culture which included a ban on relationships for one female solicitor.

Exeter: tribunal Andrei Nekrassov

Follett Stock has recently found itself getting unwelcome publicity when a former solicitor at the firm, Kate Baker, brought claims against it of sexual harassment, sexual discrimination and unfair dismissal. A settlement was reached after an initial hearing before tribunal judge Christopher Carstairs in Exeter. In the hearing, the judge read out a statement from Ms Baker in which she said that her boss had 'on many occasions told me that he did not want me in a relationship or to have babies.'

In a statement which was reported in the Western Morning News, the firm denied the claims, painting them as 'a grotesque distortion of reality'.
