London-based firms Clifford Chance and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer have secured roles on the potential merger of European defence giants EADS and BAE Systems.

Take cover -- here comes a defence merger

The magic circle firms have been instructed to advise on the discussion of the £30.5 million tie-up, reports The Lawyer newspaper.
CC will advise Dutch aerospace group EADS on UK aspects of the deal with a team led by global corporate head Matthew Layton. French firm Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier is taking the overall lead for EADS out of Paris, while leading Benelux firm Nauta Dutilh will provide Dutch advice.
Freshfields corporate specialist partner Will Lawes has taken the lead role for the UK’s BAE. Dutch and US partners from the firm are also reportedly involved.
