European woe for Dewey as creditors line up claims

Creditors from London and Paris are ramping up claims against bankrupt New York-based law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, with one claim totalling more than £600,000.

The Lawyer newspaper reports today that SCI Vendôme Bureaux – part of French insurance giant Axa – is claiming £605,028 for an unpaid commercial lease related to the US firm’s French office.
SCI has reportedly instructed Alain-Christian Monkam – founder of London-based Monkam Solicitors – to represent the business in its claim against the bust firm.
Across the channel, Dewey’s London landlord Prudential is expected to be named as one of the creditors owed the most by the English branch of the partnership.
