Ex-Halliwells partners switch lawyers to TLT in liquidator dispute

A group of 26 former partners in failed UK firm Halliwells, being pursued for millions by the liquidator, has switched legal teams - leaving Irwin Mitchell for TLT, the high-tech, high volume firm that acts as an outsourcer for Freshfields.

Claims of millions of pounds have been made against the partners by liquidator BDO on the grounds that the fixed share partners knew the firm was unable to meet its debts while it was still in business. The switch from Irwin Mitchell, another high tech litigation specialist, to TLT Solicitors follows the transfer of John Lord from Irwin Mitchell two years ago to TLT where he is now a commercial litigation partner. Halliwells went into administration in 2010.

John Lord was a partner in Halliwells but left before the collapse to join Irwin Mitchell. Halliwells had about 370 lawyers including 116 partners. It had four offices, and had its HQ in Manchester.
