Ex-Sidley's partner Matthew Cahill joins gunnercooke

Disruptor law firm gunnercooke is accelerating the growth of its London practice with the hire of ex-Clifford Chance and Sidley Austin capital markets veteran Matthew Cahill.

Mr Cahill has joined the firm which is one of the fastest growing law firms in the UK. Commenting on his new appointment he said: 'I have been impressed by the number of partners with excellent City law firm experience and backgrounds which has enabled me to pitch depth and expertise to clients.' With clients demanding better value legal services, 180 partner strong gunnercooke is disrupting the traditional law firm model by allowing partners to work and charge flexibly. Its partners retain 70 to 90 per cent of what they bill for their own work and get paid a percentage of what they refer to others.

No chargeable hours

gunnercooke's workplace model allows partners to work from home rather than the firm’s offices in the City of London, Manchester and Leeds. The lack of chargeable hour or billing targets also attracts partners. Mr Cahill said he have been 'struck by the number of times partners have said to me they wish they had moved to a flexible working firm earlier.'

Innovative

Darryl Cooke, co-founder of gunnercooke and author of the recently published Good Practice Guides – To Innovate or Not to Innovate: A Blueprint for the Law Firm of the Future said of the firm's strategy: 'Many industries have changed out of recognition  in the last 10 years by the arrival of new style innovative fast growth businesses. gunnercooke is doing the same for law by producing a new style innovative high quality law and professional services firm for the 21st century and in line with that we are delighted to be joined by Matthew, one of the City’s pre-eminent lawyers.'
